Dr. Steven J. Lawson is the Senior Pastor of Christ Fellowship Baptist Church in Mobile, Alabama. He previously served as a pastor in both Arkansas and Alabama. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University (B.B.A.), Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.), and Reformed Theological Seminary (D. Min.). Widely regarded as one of this generation's foremost expositors, Dr. Lawson is a powerful speaker and prolific author.

Recently I have been studying the Rule of St Benedict and have been astounded at the Reformed resonances in his writing. The title of this post, of course, is an anachronism since he lived many hundreds of years before the first major church schism, but it's good form to capitalize nouns in the title of a blog entry. "St Benedict the reformer" may be more a propos as he was indeed trying to purify the Christian life along much the same lines as the Puritans.

I have always known that I am somewhat irrelevant, but I have had this recently confirmed by another self-proclaimed irrelevant individual, teacher and author Ben House. It did help that I am also a teacher like him, and at least a blog author, not to mention our similar Reformed theological convictions. In an age of pragmatism, irrelevancy is not an appreciated quality. But both Ben House and I believe it is that - a quality.
